DC Surge Arrester Type 1+2 Phoenix Contact 2801163 VAL-MS-T1/T2 600DC-PV/2+V 720 V

The Phoenix Contact VAL-MS-T1/T2 600DC-PV/2+V (article number 2801163) is a combined Type 1+2 arrester for the direct current side of photovoltaic systems with a continuous operating voltage of up to 720 V DC. It is the right choice when the building is protected by an LPS lightning protection system or when direct lightning current may flow along the DC line: the device is tested with a 10/350 µs wave (Iimp 5 kA) as well as with the classic 8/20 µs wave of induced surges.

It is installed on a 35 mm DIN rail in the DC combiner box, between the photovoltaic generator and the inverter. The structure uses a Y configuration (2+V) with three protection paths — L+ / L−, L+ / PE and L− / PE — on a three-position base that houses three pluggable, thermally monitored cartridges, each with an optical status indicator. The particularly low protection level (Up ≤ 2.6 kV) suits the impulse withstand of the DC inputs of 600 V string inverters.

Key features

Combined Type 1+2 protectionIt discharges both the current from a direct lightning strike (Iimp 5 kA, 10/350 µs) and the induced and switching surges (In 15 kA, 8/20 µs).
Sized for 600 V DC stringsThe maximum operating voltage Ucpv of 720 V DC covers photovoltaic generators with a system voltage of up to 600 V DC.
Contained protection levelUp ≤ 2.6 kV: a low value that safeguards the inverter's DC inputs and the string cables.
Three-path Y configurationThe L+/L−, L+/PE and L−/PE paths with a series spark gap eliminate the leakage current to earth in normal service.
Pluggable cartridges with optical indicatorThe three thermally monitored elements are plug-in replaceable and give a visual indication when they reach their end of life.
DIN rail installation3-position base for a 35 mm rail, screw terminals up to 35 mm² solid, IP20 with the terminals occupied.
