DC Surge Protective Device Type 2 Phoenix Contact 1466772 VAL-SPP-T2-1000DC-PV-2+V-UT

The Phoenix Contact VAL-SPP-T2-1000DC-PV-2+V-UT (article number 1466772) is a Type 2 (class II) surge protective device from the Safe Protection Plus family, intended for the direct current side of photovoltaic systems with a continuous operating voltage of up to 1200 V DC. It is mounted on a 35 mm DIN rail in the DC combiner box, between the strings and the inverter, and limits the surges of indirect atmospheric and switching origin that travel along the string cables.

The device is built in a Y configuration (2+V), with three protection paths — DC+ / DC−, DC+ / PE and DC− / PE — obtained on a three-position base with three pluggable, thermally monitored protection elements. Each cartridge has optical fault indication, so the operator can identify the element to be replaced at a glance. The UT suffix indicates the base with universal screw terminals, which accept solid conductors up to 25 mm², while the IP20C rating guarantees protection against contact with the test finger once the device is installed.

Key features

Type 2 protection up to 1200 V DCThe Ucpv of 1200 V DC covers photovoltaic generators with a 1000 V DC system voltage, with a wide safety margin.
High discharge capacityIn of 20 kA and Imax of 40 kA (8/20 µs wave), with a protection level Up ≤ 4.2 kV.
Three-path Y configurationThe DC+/DC−, DC+/PE and DC−/PE paths with a series spark gap rule out the leakage current to earth in normal service.
Thermally monitored pluggable cartridgesThe three protection elements are plug-in replaceable, each with optical fault indication, without touching the wiring.
UT universal terminalsM5 screw terminals for flexible conductors from 1.5 to 16 mm² and solid conductors from 1.5 to 25 mm².
Sturdy constructionIP20C rating with the device installed and an extended temperature range from −40 °C to +85 °C.
